Briggs & Stratton Plans $35.5 Million Upgrade of Kentucky Plant

Source: Associated Press

MURRAY, Ky. (July 20, 2010) — Outdoor power equipment maker Briggs & Stratton Corp. is renovating its western Kentucky plant, keeping 640 jobs in Murray.

Gov. Steve Beshear was in Murray on Monday for the announcement and said the decision by the company will have tremendous economic impact across the state.

Briggs & Stratton will put $35.5 million into its Murray plant over the next three years to make the facility globally competitive in the manufacture of air-cooled engines. The engines power lawn mowers and other outdoor equipment.

The state has approved the company for tax incentives up to $15 million over the next decade under the Kentucky Reinvestment Act.
