Toro Buys Product Line from Ty-Crop
BLOOOMINGTON, Minn. (Oct. 14) — The Toro Co. has acquired the rights to a line of turf-maintenance equipment designed for golf courses and sports fields from a Canadian company for an undisclosed amount.
Bloomington-based Toro (NYSE: TTC) acquired several models of top-dressing and material-handling equipment from Ty-Crop Manufacturing. Those products now will be sold under the Toro brand through Toro’s U.S. and international distribution channels.
Toro said the deal will enhance its position in the turf-maintenance industry.
“Comprehensive cultivation and top-dressing programs are increasingly important for our customers around the world,” said Michael Happe, vice president of Toro’s commercial business, in a statement. “Golf courses and sports fields rely on these machines to achieve improved agronomic conditions and to create healthy, consistent playing surfaces.”
Top-dressing and material-handling machines are primarily used on golf course greens and fairways to improve turf health, control thatch and provide optimal playing conditions. But groundskeepers at sports fields also use the machines to evenly apply materials such as topsoil, fertilizer, sand, lime, and even crumb rubber for artificial turf.
In addition to top-dressing and material-handling equipment, Ty-Crop also makes trailers and oil and gas products that were not included in Toro’s acquisition.
Privately-held Ty-Crop is based in Rosedale, British Columbia.
