Final Numbers, Awards In for GIE + EXPO 2009
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Nov. 19, 2009) – Show organizers say it’s been a tough year for the industry, but GIE+EXPO 2009 showed few traces of the economic downturn.
The show counted nearly 16,600 participants, with dealer/retailer registrations up 2% from 2008 with a total of about 5,400. Approximately 6,300 lawn and landscape pros attended the show.
Show officials say specific attendance numbers suggest trends for an economic rebound in 2010, with merchandiser/buyer registrations up 18%, lawn and garden centers up 25% and distributor numbers up 9% from last year’s show.
“These numbers bode well for the industry,” said GIE + EXPO Show Director Warren Sellers. “They show that people invested time and money to do one thing – spec equipment.”
The New Products Arena featured 70 new products from 50 exhibiting companies. Thirteen exhibitors were center stage at GIE+EXPO during press conferences held on the New Products Arena stage.
GIE+EXPO hosted nearly 500 exhibiting companies from all over the world, organizers say. They displayed throughout more than 500,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space. About 100 of them, covering 16,550 square feet, had not exhibited last year.
In addition to benefiting from education, networking and the indoor displays, visitors could walk outside to the 19-acre demonstration area for hands-on product comparisons offered each day by nearly 100 companies.
Winners of Power Equipment Trade magazine’s Dealers Choice Awards, which were announced on Saturday during the show, included:
