A subcommittee in the Virginia House has approved a bill that would allow local governments to ban the use of gas-powered leaf blowers, according to a Jan. 26 report from WRIC.

The bill states that, if passed, "Any locality may by ordinance prohibit or regulate the use of gas-powered leaf blowers within its jurisdiction. The locality may authorize a civil penalty for violations in an amount to be set out in the ordinance."
