Orscheln Farm & Home and Field Trip Factory announced that the winner of the 2020: An Entrepreneurial Odyssey Business Plan Contest is Shanna Evans’ Entrepreneurship 2 class, from Olathe East High School. For its prize, the class had the opportunity to become business leaders for a day and ran the local Orscheln Farm & Home store of Louisburg Kan., on March 27.

2020: An Entrepreneurial Odyssey is a business learning Field Trip hosted by Orscheln Farm & Home and created by Field Trip Factory. The Olathe East students went on the interactive Field Trip to experience a behind-the-scenes look at the business operations of a real retail store.

They then used what they learned to write a future-oriented business plan for Orscheln Farm & Home stores in the year 2020. In their plan, the students noted this innovative outreach idea: “We’re going to create an outside sales team that calls on schools, leagues, and associations and is known for product expertise and top service.”

On March 27, ten of Mrs. Evans’ students worked alongside Orscheln Farm & Home employees and experienced the daily store operations up close.  Past years’ winners have had fun using their creativity and building special merchandising or themed displays.  In addition to providing students this valuable real world experience, Orscheln Farm & Home will commemorate their achievement by donating $100 to the school for supplies.

Congratulations to students Dani Branigan, Eric Rausch, Justin Thomas, Tre LyDay, Dalton Weigal and teacher Shannon Evans for creating the winning entry. David Hult, Orscheln Farm & Home Director of Store Operations said of the effort “It’s rewarding to give today’s high school students an opportunity to showcase their own unique talents and creativity, and to explore and imagine their futures in business.”
