When someone isn’t performing (incompetence or negligence), we need to ask ourselves 4 questions:

  • Did I train them on our process?
  • Is the process that I trained them on correct?
  • Are they willing to follow our process?
  • Do we have a process?

The employee is only responsible for 1 of the 4. We as business owners/managers are responsible for the other 3. We have be both managers and leaders. We lead people and manage process.  Management is about ensuring competency and productivity. Leadership is creating focus and passion. To manage we need to be clear on the processes we are managing. Then lead people to follow the processes.
