The Outdoor Power Equipment Institute has released the following statement on the Department of Energy’s proposal to rescind existing energy conservation standards.
“The Department of Energy is proposing to rescind its existing regulations regarding the energy conservation standards for consumer external power supplies and the efficiency standards for battery chargers. OPEI, along with coalition partners, submitted comments, led by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, in opposing the full rescinding of these regulations because it could increase the burdens of compliance with potential varied requirements across each state.
Instead, we recommended that the DOE repeal the amended battery charger test procedure, Appendix Y1, which was previously revised to change its test such that additional energy could be measured and regulated. Additionally, the DOE could issue a determination not to amend the External Power Supplies and battery charger standards which would create supply chain stability and global harmonization.”
In its July 17 e-newsletter, OPEI Weekly, the organization offered that OPEI members who wish to learn more about OPEI's ongoing engagement in battery/electric policy can contact Brandon Martin, VP of Battery Electric Product & Industry Affairs, at bmartin@opei.org.
