Manufacturers know and dealers know that fuels containing greater than 10% ethanol can damage or destroy outdoor power equipment, in addition to being illegal — but many customers don’t.

Two recent surveys from the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI), conducted by Harris Poll, show, show 63% of Americans will use the least expensive grade of gasoline whenever possible.

In addition, nearly 74% of Americans say they are not at all sure if it’s legal or illegal to put high level ethanol gas into small engine products. By Federal law, it is illegal to use those higher ethanol fuel blends in outdoor power equipment.

OPEI’s Look Before You Pump campaign is now more than a year old, but there is still a lot of education to be done. Consider using this infographic as a sales training tool, in your email communication with customers, for social media posts or even displayed at your service counter. It raises awareness about the issue, helping your customers make the best choices as summer and fall are peak times for outdoor power equipment use. Download here.
