Fiskars has revealed plans to launch a new line of propane-powered outdoor power equipment, according to a brief report in Lawn & Landscape magazine

Fiskars did not return e-mail and phone messages left at its marketing office from Rural Lifestyle Dealer.

Fiskars has acquired the exclusive, worldwide rights to manufacture and sell lawn and garden products utilizing the low-emission propane power technology developed by Lehr, according to the unsourced article.

Fiskars will leverage its brand to build upon the consumer and environmental benefits inherent in propane technology. Propane, a high-octane fuel, burns more efficiently than gas and delivers serious cutting power with reduced exhaust emissions and no evaporative emissions. More than 85% of propane used in the U.S. is produced domestically.

The company plans to debut the new propane line with a trimmer in early 2011 to be followed by blowers, mowers and other types of lawn and garden equipment in 2012 and beyond.

The introduction of propane-powered tools follows on the heels of the company’s launch of the Momentum reel mower in 2010.

The Momentum improves ease-of-use and cutting performance to overcome the shortcomings of traditional reel mowers. Positive reviews from Consumer Reports, Popular Mechanics and Martha Stewart are underscored by strong sales in the mower’s initial selling season.
