The Rural Mainstreet Index, which ranges between 0 and 100, with 50.0 representing growth neutral, increased to 53.2 in April from 50.1 in March and 48.4 in February.
Earlier this spring, I shared thoughts about a new customer segment called urban ruralists. Urban ruralists are those people who live in the city and grow their own food. I think we need to take that segment one step further, based on what I'm seeing in my own community.
The Rural Mainstreet Index (RMI) declined modestly this month, due to large decreases in farm equipment sales and loan volume. The main driver of the index continues to be farm income, and for the 25th straight month, the index has been above growth neutral.
