Briggs & Stratton will close its 2 Billy Goat manufacturing facilities in Lee's Summit, Mo., starting this summer, according to a number of media reports. 

According to KMBC News, the company is laying off 90 employees as part of the closure, starting July 2, 2025. Briggs & Stratton PR Director Rebecca Shaffer told the station the company is moving operations to a facility in Munnsville, N.Y., due to current facilities limitations. 

"This operational move will provide increased capacity and capability, allowing us to meet future demand and potentially expand our Billy Goat product offering," Shaffer told KMBC News. "We will begin laying off employees in July and continue through the end of the year as we wind down operations in our current facility."

Briggs & Stratton acquired Billy Goat in 2015. At the time, Billy Goat had annual net sales of approximately $30 million. Briggs & Stratton acquired all of the outstanding shares of Billy Goat for approximately $26 million in cash, subject to customary post-closing working capital adjustments.
