MOUNDRIDGE, Kan. & PICKENS CO, S.C. -- Grasshopper Mower, the lawn care pros with the ZeroTurn riding rotary mowers, is proud to partner with Meals on Wheels to help those in need. Grasshopper will take to the turf in September as part of the Sam Wyche Food Fight Bowl, Sept. 9, in Easley, SC in support of Meals on Wheels nationwide.

“We are proud to be the presenting sponsor of the Sam Wyche Food Fight Bowl,” said Trent Guyer, Marketing Coordinator at Grasshopper. “This game allows Grasshopper to showcase our love of turf and our support of an amazing cause, all under the Friday Night Lights.”

The Sam Wyche Food Fight Bowl began in 2008 as a way to harness the intense competitiveness between Pickens High School and Easley High School. The two rival schools compete for the ownership of the Food Fight Bowl trophy by raising money for Meals on Wheels in the weeks prior to the game.

Grasshopper will have an announcement during the pre-game field presentation at 7:40 p.m. They will also be a part of the halftime show honoring the winning school with the Food Fight Bowl trophy. The trophy is a unique piece for display, boasting the 1988 Coach of the Year award of NFL coaching legend and local resident, Sam Wyche.

Wyche is one of only two NFL veterans who participated in a Super Bowl as a player, assistant coach, head coach and commentator. He is most known for the creation of the “no-huddle offense.” He coached Joe Montana to his first Super Bowl victory in Super Bowl XVI, and coached the Boomer Esiason-led team to Super Bowl XXIII.

“Grasshopper Mowers is just an overall great company and brand to work with,” said Wyche, proud 11-year owner of a Grasshopper mower. “We are excited to have them be a part of their first Food Fight Bowl. It will be a great night on the turf for both them and Meals on Wheels.”

In the past three years, the students from both student bodies have raised more than $34,000, an equivalent of 7,223 meals! People who wish to help a specific school can visit www.pcmow.org and donate to Meals on Wheels.
