The New Year brings a sense of urgency to make changes, so you can have your best year ever. Unfortunately, that pressure could lead to time management habits that destroy your effectiveness — and your chance for real gains at your dealership.

There are simple techniques to help you better manage where and how you spend your energy. According to a story in The Business Journals, try giving up multitasking. “You can do a few things well, or a lot of things badly,” says the expert, Bryce Sanders, who is president of Perceptive Business Solutions.

And don’t confuse immediate with important. For instance, an email notification may signify something immediate, but not necessarily something important.

Also, guard against stolen time. “People don’t arrive for meetings on time. Conference calls get delayed. Often we sit around and wait. Lost time is stolen and cannot be recovered,” Sanders says.
