PONCHATOULA, La. — For 25 years, Ragan & Massey has been manufacturing and distributing products that range from herbicides to wildlife food plots. Throughout that time, the company has made efforts to build relationships and a line of products to help rural property owners better manage and enjoy the land.

The company was launched when Tom Ragan and Mike Massey joined forces in 1991 to distribute pet food and seed. As the company grew, it was decided to begin manufacturing products for the rural lifestyle market.

“There have been many monumental changes during our 25 years, but transitioning the company to a manufacturing and marketing group has been key to our continued success,” says Mike Massey, Ragan & Massey president. “We’re proud of the relationships we have with our customers, and we thank them for their continued support.”

In 2006 the company launched its first proprietary forage seed – PRINE. That launch helped to establish the company in the forage business, with today’s offerings including more than nine varieties for pasture, turf and wildlife food plots.

Partnerships with key retailers have been fundamental in establishing the company as a leader in herbicide manufacturing. Ragan & Massey manufactures products under the Compare-N-Save, FarmWorks and Ragan & Massey brands. Two leading products include RM43 and BRUSHTOX, both herbicides that help control weeds and woody vines.

A major change for the company took place in 2015 when Ragan & Massey expanded its manufacturing capacity with the construction of its new Tangi-Pac LLC, amination facility located in Ponchatoula. The company manufactures herbicide at this plant.

Within the last year, Ragan & Massey has watched its Facebook community grow to more than 80,000 followers, and it launched a new website for individuals who enjoy the country lifestyle.

Throughout the company’s history, Ragan & Massey has received support from city and state officials who have assisted the company in expanding its reach locally and nationally.

“The assistance of Ponchatoula mayors Julian Dufreche and Bob Zabbia has been important to us,” says Massey. “These men, along with other city leaders, played an important part in getting us into the industrial park where our facilities are located and helped with important business expansion.”
