BEATRICE, Neb. — Exmark announced that it will offer a new Smart Controller on select 2018 Lazer Z S-Series commercial zero-turn riding mower models. Designed to provide a more robust operator interface and reduce downtime, the Smart Controller offers a wealth of user data. This includes interlock status, PTO and total hours, fuel level, maintenance reminders and machine health status.Smart Controller

According to Exmark Product Manager, Jamie Briggs, the Smart Controller is designed to work with mechanically governed Kohler EFI engines, replacing the traditional hour meter on other machines.

“The Smart Controller adds a level of intelligence to the traditional hour meters found on other machines. The large, easy-to-read digital screen displays machine health status in real time, while maintenance reminders help maximize uptime by ensuring vital engine and transmission services are being performed on a timely basis.”

The large display features a single LED status light that quickly notifies the operator if a malfunction has occurred. A green light indicates the system is functioning properly, while a red light indicates an active error. An alternating green/orange light indicates a clutch reset is required. On-screen alerts include fuel level, engine temperature, oil pressure, charging system status, and PTO clutch overcurrent/reset. The Smart Controller also includes a Limp Mode feature, which disables the cutting system in the event of a critical system error, to prevent permanent damage to the machine.

The Smart Controller features extensive weatherproofing to ensure dependable operation in any condition. Features include a sealed ignition key switch, and sealed, non-contact PTO switch, which relies on hall-effect switching to deliver maximum all weather durability.

Exmark offers Smart Controller-equipped Lazer Z S-Series models with Kohler EFI gasoline engines with the choice of a 52-, 60- or 72-inch UltraCut Series 4 cutting deck. The Smart Controller is also featured on Exmark’s EFIpropane Lazer Z S-Series models, available with a 60- or 72-inch UltraCut Series 4 cutting deck.
