Aerospace and defense company ATK has selected The Toro Company, which makes turf and landscape maintenance equipment, to help design and build two hydrogen fuel cell-powered utility vehicles.

The project is part of ATK's contract work with the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division, which is working to coordinate hydrogen storage development efforts for the U.S. Department of Energy.

Toro said Friday that as part of the deal, it will provide operational expertise in fuel cell technology and off-road utility vehicle application.

The fuel cell utility vehicles are scheduled for delivery this fall for a 12-month demonstration.
